Install Cookie Banner on WordPress: Step-by-Step Guide
Installing a GDPR-compliant cookie banner on WordPress doesn't have to be complicated. In this guide, we show exactly how to do it - in under 10 minutes.
What You Need
- A WordPress site (version 5.0 or later)
- Admin access to WordPress
- 10 minutes of your time
Method 1: Cookiefy WordPress Plugin (Recommended)
Step 1: Install the Plugin
- Log in to your WordPress admin
- Go to Plugins → Add New
- Search for "Cookiefy"
- Click Install Now → Activate
Step 2: Create Cookiefy Account
- Go to cookiefy.se/signup
- Create a free account (no credit card required)
- Add your domain in the dashboard
- Wait for automatic scanning (1-2 minutes)
Step 3: Connect the Plugin
- In WordPress, go to Settings → Cookiefy
- Enter your Domain ID (found in Cookiefy dashboard)
- Click Save
Step 4: Customize (Optional)
In the Cookiefy dashboard you can:
- Change colors to match your design
- Choose banner position (bottom, top, popup)
- Customize texts
- Enable/disable cookie categories
Done! Your site now has a GDPR-compliant cookie banner.
Method 2: Manual Installation (Without Plugin)
If you prefer not to use a plugin, you can install Cookiefy manually.
Step 1: Create Account and Get Script
- Create account at cookiefy.se/signup
- Add your domain
- Go to the Script page in the dashboard
- Copy the script code
Step 2: Add to WordPress
Option A: Via Theme
- Go to Appearance → Theme Editor
- Open header.php
- Paste the script just before </head>
- Save
Option B: Via Plugin
- Install "Insert Headers and Footers" plugin
- Go to Settings → Insert Headers and Footers
- Paste the script in "Scripts in Header"
- Save
Verify It Works
- Open your site in an incognito/private window
- The cookie banner should appear
- Click "Reject" - analytical cookies should not load
- Click "Accept" - all cookies should work
